As a freelancer, what happens when the door won't open any more?

    I've been doing freelancing for 30 years. I no longer understand what is going on with this market, especially in the UK and EU. It has become impossible. So I wrote this article trying to understand it. I'd welcome any comments or perspectives from freelancers out there. Have you had these experiences or is it just me?

    "Something changed in business". Interesting.

    Not a freelancer (in fact, I am now retired), but I'm picking up that vibe as well, though I would not have come up with that description. I didn't necessarily see it in hiring, because I'm not looking. I might call it aimlessness, maybe? Businesses can't tell people why they do what they do, they just do... something. Like it's by habit, but they lost track of why.

    As I said, just a vibe I'm picking up. I could be wrong.

    With all due respect, I stopped reading at

    > I’m extremely senior;

    What does “extremely” even mean in this context? This immediately gave me “humble brag” vibes. Bad taste in the mouth.

      I'm not humble bragging. I do mean it. I've been called "the brain", "the goat" at clients. I can't help it ;)

        I think you just proved their point.

      Well, back in the day, you became a "senior software engineer" with three to five years of experience - so how do you describe yourself when you have 30 years of experience? Just "senior" doesn't convey an accurate picture.

        Thank you, well explained!
